Coach Strandberg is in his 2nd year as Head coach at West Central Valley. Prior to coaching at WCV, Strandberg was head coach at Sibley-Ocheyedan for eight years, Storm Lake High School for one year and a student assistant coach at Buena Vista University for one year. Strandberg has coached 36 state qualifiers and 15 state medalist in his 10 years as head coach. His top team finishes include a pair of State Dual trophies: 3rd in 2016 and 5th in 2017. In addition, the Generals finished 3rd in the Traditional State Championship in 2017 with five state place winners.

Prior to coaching, Strandberg wrestled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Buena Vista University. While competing as a Maverick, Strandberg qualified for the NCAA II National Tournament twice, and was a member of two national championship teams. At Buena Vista, Strandberg was a two time NCAA III National qualifier. He earned All-American honors in 2007 placing second at the national championships.

As a prep, Strandberg was a two time state qualifier. His highest high school achievement came in 2002 when he placed second at the state meet, helping his Emmetsburg team win its third straight championship.

Strandberg earned his B.A. in History/Education from Buena Vista University in 2008. He and his wife, Staci, have three children, Lilli, Charlie, and Cooper.
